ApplicationsAcetal Homopolymer is used in high load mechanical applications. This Acetal resin is also used in plumbing and irrigation applications due to its excellent thread strength & ability to resist scale build-up.

Because of its machinability, the Acetal Homopolymer resin is used in prototyping of in vivo medical devices. It is also used in automotive applications.

Specific applications for Acetal Homopolymer resin include:

  • Bearings

  • Gears

  • Safety Restraints

  • Conveyor Belts

  • Housings

  • Automotive Ventilation

  • Fuel System Components

  • Automotive Cooling System Parts

AdvantagesAcetal Homopolymer is a tough, resilient material that exhibits:

  • Good Creep Resistance

  • Rigidity

  • Toughness

  • Dimensional Stability

  • Surface Hardness

  • Lubricity

  • Impact Resistance

  • Low Moisture Absorption

  • Low Friction

  • High Wear Resistance

  • Wide Operating Temperature Range

  • Good Color-ability

  • Good Mating with Metal & Other Polymers

  • Easily Modified Wear & Friction Properties with Additives

Compared to Acetal Copolymer resin, the Homopolymer offers higher tensile strength and impact resistance, as well as good stiffness and creep resistance. These properties allow for thinner and lighter part design, shorter molding cycles and the potential for cost reductions.
DisadvantagesThe disadvantages of Acetal Homopolymer resin include:

  • Longer molding cycle times

  • Sinks

  • Relatively High Cost
